3-day trip Costa Rican style

part3 of 7

The night of day one we meet our friend in Panama at 730pm. He helps us through with some items that we needed to attend to. Two of us request the bathrooms from our long drive. The boss has a young man escort us outside along a sidewalk for this building. We pass by the men's bathroom as our guide tells my friend something with a negative shake of the head. We stop in front of the ladies' room and he takes a key to unlock a lock on a hasp. Next he enters the room and unlocks the first stall for me. This one is saved for staff. My friend is using the stall next to me like a urinal as I take a seat.. Ah well, privacy doesn't seem to be an issue. No water to wash your hands but I've carried my wet wipes. :)

Then off to drinks and dinner where we wanted to treat everyone to a nice evening of luxury. However, that wasn't available in the town so we went to a lovely local place. They didn't know what cranberry juice was so I mixed my vodka with ginger ale. The thoughts of lobster disappeared into bowls of chicken/rice or ceviche. Bruce had fried chicken with french fries. At 10pm we are pooped and led to our hotel. A confused hotel guy checked us in. He didn't know how to run a Visa card so our friend did it. He then gave us each a bar of soap about the size of a saltine cracker. Next we were given the remotes to the TV and a/c. Our room was the tiger room. I've stayed in hotels for over 20 yrs of work and never saw anything quite like this. We have very interesting tiger bedspreads made of that velvety type blanket fabric. There are no nightstands and there is one chair with a small table. We have two bath towels and one hand towel (washcloths aren't big in this country). We fall into a deep sleep immediately.
to be continued..
